Slough Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS) has responded to the needs of the community for over 70 years. It is aware of an average of over 300 organisations, actively seeking to deal with problems and needs identified within the diverse community and deliver quality services
 

  • Workers provide a one-to-one development serviceSlough Quality Protects
    helping new and existing groups with their legal 
    requirements, helping them find funding and training 
    them so that they become sustainable
  • In 2009, SCVS ran over 15 training courses and conferences on topics including Governance issues, Financial Management, Safeguarding Children, Project Management and Funding  
  • SCVS set up the first quality assurance programme for the South East with nine groups working with Children and Young People have attaining a Slough Quality Protects accreditation in 2009 
  • SCVS gives local groups a chance to participate in the town’s decision making process. Five participation events including the Community Care Forum, Children and Young People’s Forum and Slough Community Network were held in 2009 
  • During the 2008/9 year, SCVS helped, though Development Work and Funding Services to bring in a total of £902,635 of funding into the Slough community 
  • Slough's voluntary sector is diverse with groups supporting children and young people, helping older people and carers to access services, giving help to refugees and running projects from employment support to creative media 
  • Citizens Advice Slough is available to everyone in the borough and in the last year has increased its service from three to five days a week providing specialist advisors, outreach services and telephone support 
  • Shelter is a charity that works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing. They do this by giving free confidential and impartial advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need 
  • Slough Community Network (SCN) is a network of community organisations that come together to participate in decision making in Slough. 15 Community Champions covering Health and Social Care, Communities Together and Children and Young People have been elected to take forward these issues with voluntary and statutory partners in Slough
  • There are 34 Compact Champions who work within their organisations for better partnership working and creating better outcomes for individuals and local communities
